I've been receiving many request for contouring & highlighting. I will get more in depth once I fully recover. It's a very exciting technique that I absolutely love. There are SO many ways to do it & SO many ways you can change many facial shapes (and also body) with shading & lightening areas.

I've missed you all a great deal. I'm back! For real this time.....:)

So....I went to IMATS in Pasadena on Sat, 6/25/11. I had a BALL & spent WAYYYYY to much money!
I met up with a Beautiful young lady named Nickie (pictured below) I met in a Facebook makeup chat & hung out with her for the day. I also met a few youtube "gurus" I watch & bloggers whose blogs I LOVE!! I took a few pictures.....

While I was there, I allowed someone from CoverFX to give me a 'makeover'! She felt I didn't need to be contoured & reapplied my makeup to tone me down. Hey, what did I have to lose? `\(^-^)/` She did a great job!

Some of the celebs came with their own makeup artist. A lot didn't but were able to get their makeup done before the show. Unfortunately, I couldn't take pictures while working so here's a list of the women I got to touch up.......... Jamie Foster-Brown, KiKi Palmer, Tierra Marie, Sylvia Rhone, Denala, Layla Ali, Anita Baker, Lorean Gibson, Meagan Good, MC Lyte, Kyla Pratt, Marsha Ambrosious AND I got a Big 'Ol kiss from Nia Long! I enjoyed working with all of the ladies. It was a great experience & a blessing!!

I ALSO got to do the Mablean Ephriam H.U.F. Awards June 19th. I really enjoyed myself & met lots of wonderful people!! Here are some flicks from the event..........

Achieving a Smokey Eye Workshop

I held a smokey eye workshop for some of my clients at the end of March. I went over the basic way to achieve the "classic" smokey eye & lightly went over eyebrow sculpting. We had a Really good time!

Hey Beautiful People!!

I attended The Makeup Show L.A. on Sunday. This was my first time attending & I had a BALL! Unfortunatley, because it fell on a Sat/Sun instead of a Sun/Mon, I worked Sat & was only able to attend Sun. In my opinion, they were hosting better classes Sat so I missed out but I DID get a few deals!! Looky what I picked up......>>>>

Upon receiving my makeup show wrist band, I was given a free Kevyn Aucoin gloss in Jupitesse Metallic Blue. The packaging is SO Fly but I'll probably never use it. :-/

My first stop was the Kissable Coutoure booth. Isn't the packaging lovely? I purchased Tyler (a purple color) & Fantasies (a brilliant red).

I also got to meet the man behind Kissable Coutoure, Mr. AJ Crimson!

Then I walked over to the Crystal Wright booth & had my book signed. She's super duper nice & pretty funny!

She specifically asked me to post this photo & not the other 2 we took. I think I look pregnant in the face here. Ughhhh..
(I'm NOT preggers by the way)

Then.......I ran in to Elyessa from Purse Buzz & Koren of Enkore. They are absolutely the best!

I attended a class he gave. It was very informative.

And sat & listened to these ladies (whos names I canNot remember) speak about how to get into TV/Film makeup. Great advice was given.

These dear 'ol face charts were three 10packs for $20, so I picked these up to get my face chart practice. I'm terrible at face charts by the way!

I picked up 5 Danessa Myricks DVDs & her book.
I haven't had a chance to start reading the book but I did watch all 5 DVDs.
I like one of them. I could seriously live without the others.

Now on to all the other stuff I picked up...

4 packs of these wipes in different scents for $1.99

These brushes from Crown Brush & Bdellium.
I wish I would have picked up more brushes from Bdellium. They are the bomb!

All the brushes I purchased were between $2-$8.

8 packs of much needed disposables. They were all $2.

Lip & brow pencils in Espresso, Candy, Toast, Deep Red & Pale pink from the Auraline booth. I think they were like $1.

Also from the Auraline booth, I picked up these shadows. They had MAC & Urban Decay dupes. I only picked up six. They were $2.50 each.
Warm Brown Shimmer, Taupe Opalescent, Chocolate Matte, Vibrant Purple Shimmer, Deep Plum Shimmer & 24k Frost.
The color pay off is amazing & they blend very well.

Last item I purchased there was this Graftobian High Definition Color Palette in Super Warm for $60. I can't wait to use it.

And drum roll please.........................................

The last stop I made before heading home was to AJ Crimsons class. It was very fun, funny & informative.

All of the other things I got to see & experience were recorded & I don't feel like editing now. Maybe in the next few days.......
Can't wait for IMATS!!!! I'm uber excited!!!

I LOVE when my Mom offers to watch the kids & tells me to go have a break! These moments are few & far between. I'm a workaholic & most of my hours are spent making others fly & tending to my Motherly duties. So I curled my hair, slapped on Moets (<~my inner diva) face & broke out my young hottie attire.
I was going for the "classic" smokey eye due to me not having time to ever really put on shadow anymore. I wanted a little drama........So here's what I used.......

It is my civil duty to tell you about these products I've been using & how much I love OR Hate them!! Heeeerrrrreeee we go........

Maybelline Fit Me foundation & powder
$ 6.99 @ Target

I ran across a review in a local magazine & HAD to try this. I have it in 355 (the darkest shade they offer ).<~ O_o Now, I'm a 400 caramel in Revlon ColorStay with a MAC NC 45 Studio Fix powder, (if you're familiar with those brands), which is not very dark so I had an attitude! The foundation alone is a little too red but the power is very yellow so it balances out to "fit" me! It is has light to medium coverage and blends & sets like a dream! Very airbrush like! Would I buy it again??? Heck NO!! It didn't even last an hour!!! Oily skin people....RUN!! This is NOT the foundation for u. I was shining like a brand new penny every time I wore it. No bueno!!!

Hard Candy Glow Doll Face & Glamazon Bronze $5.49 @ Walmart I freakin' LOVE this stuff! Its great! I use the Glamazon Bronze the most. It gives you a great highlight without the over power of shimmer. I'm wearing it in my family photo I just took. Doll Face is a must have for darker skin like a NW45 + but can also be wonderful for fair skin as well.
It gives u a very pearlized, doll face type highlight. It has pinks & pearl colors......very beautiful!!
I will repurchase as long as it is available.

Both $5 @Walmart

Bottom Line.......it kinda sucks. Totally not for "professional" use but great for kid functions, DYI Halloween makeup or if u wanted a quick look for a few hours. It doesn't last very long & it definitely won't last through a sweat or on oily skin.

I searched Los Angeles high and low to find the Heart & Soul magazine. Being that yesterday was Thanksgiving, the book stores (like Borders) hadn't shelved them. I found 3 copies at a Target though!! Yay!! Jumping up & down, flipping through the pages, I stumble upon page 14 & see ME!!! So exciting right!!??? It was a Wonderful experience with such Darling people!! Melissa Roshan (the cover model) is such a kind, kindred spirit and has become like a sister to me. I love her dearly, she's a God sent friend for life!! Please pick up a copy & read her story. She is truly an inspiration! Hopefully her story can be blessing to you or someone you know!

If you're going to the club or a date, its good, but to wear it all day, it doesn't last. 24hr It Is NOT!!! I needed it to last about 8 hrs and it was NOT happening! Revlon ColorStay lasts longer.

Hey my Loves!!!

Ya sista has been super busy! I'm sorry for abandoning you guys! I have a number of exciting things going on that I'm waiting and working on. I did makeup for Trends magazine again. I've only seen 2 pictures from the shoot & it has me looking forward to the mag publishing! I was offered a job at MAC!!! Exciting huh?? (Long story though)
I'm back at work. < Thats going well! And a plethora of other things not makeup related that y'all probably would give a darn about!:}

I used MAC Naked Lunch, Goldenrod, Texture & Sketch. My liner was a mistake that I didn't have time to fix. I used a Smashbox pencil that I got from the $99cents store next to the salon. :}

For some reason I've been into the smokey eyes & I won't stop until I try every color combo with black that I can. Wait until the magazine comes out! I was smoking everybody with different color creases! I was excited about over using my Carbon.

I was on my way to a biker event.

'Good Hair' the movie

So....
Comedian Chris Rock was inspired to create the film when one of his daughters asked why she didn’t have "good" hair. Its an amazing experience to sit and listen to children speak about what's beautiful and what isn't. Of course the media has a lot to do with many of their responses. Most believed Beyonce was better than Erykah Badu & India Aire simply because of their hair. Surprisingly, my daughter preferred the natural haired sistas over Beyonce ( we are both HUGE Beyonce fans) and I was quite proud! Personally, I wear a relaxer because my hair is short and it needs to be straight for the styles I like to wear. "Good Hair" to me is healthy hair!

Review: MAC Refined Zone Treatment & Matte Creme etc..

I purchased these two products about 3 months ago. The Refined Zone Treatment seems to be discontinued now. Anyway, I like them. They leave your skin feeling really smooth if worn alone and they seem to make my foundation look airbrushed. The Matte Creme doesn't last long enough for me but I have noticed that it has made some difference. The smooth feeling of the skin does last though.

I wouldn't actually buy them again but it was worth the initial purchase. They are a little pricey for the amount of product you get.

A BIG THANK YOU for all of your prayers and well wishes. I am back up and working. (Taking it slow) Although I am not 100% yet, I am well on my way. I was hard being put flat on my face unable to really help myself. Thanks Mommy for forcing me to fight and nursing me back to health!! You're the Worlds Greatest Mom!!!!!!!!

I apologize for being M.I.A. on my makeup and photos. I contracted the h1n1 virus (the swine flu).
It's no joke ya'll!! If you could see what I look like right now:{ Ooohhh Weeeee!! I'm not kidding!

If you're sick, please stay in the house until you recover and don't go spreading germs around being selfish!! I Have the Satin Pillow Cases!!

Not long ago, I made a post about the importance of satin or silk pillow cases. (For those of you who don't remember check the July 13th post)

Many of you seem to have had an issue with finding them. Well, I have access to them!!!

The colors that are available are: Black, royal purple, light purple, yellow, white, cream, silver, mint green, dark green, regular green, chocolate brown & red. The cost for the pillow cases are $15.00.

Just a very simple hot summer day look I went for using Revlon Colorstay foundation, MAC Blot Powder in Dark. MAC Gorgeous Gold, Sushi Flower, & Shroom shadows. NYC mascara and MAC Wonderstruck & Pink Poodle lip glass.
I took the kids to a lil kiddie pool party. It was Hot than a mutha today!

You NEED This!!!

My clients (mostly the newer ones but I have hard headed old ones also!) often ask me why their hair feels dry, why it breaks, or why they develop split ends more often than usual. My question is ALWAYS...."What cha sleepin' on"? 10 times out of 10 I get the answer I always expect and an excuse behind it. I said all of that to say.........

GO GET YOURSELF A SATIN OR SILK PILLOWCASE!!!!!

There is NO reason why your hair should be laying on cotton. It breaks your hair, it dries it out etc.... Bottom Line: Its all bad!! Yes that new sheet set is cute, but you can at least have one mismatch pillow for the safety of your tresses.

Oh! And by the way, PLEASE STOP wrapping or tying down your hair with "do" rags and/or that b/s cotton scarf you've probably had for years. A Polyester/Rayon scarf and/or pillowcase is also a NO NO! Go get yourself a satin or silk scarf please!

You can find them at all major department stores, Target, Walmart, Annas Linens, most beauty supplies and they are reasonably priced.

Stop cheating yourself and go treat yourself please! Thanks!! :) **Sarcastic Smile**

99cent Store Lashes & More

I found these lashes at the 99cents store. I am wearing a pair in the post below! They have other cosmetics there but I'm too afraid to try them! **Sorry**

I also took a trip to Michael's and bought these 2 brushes that I LOVE!! They were only $2.50.
I use them for detailed work or lining the eyes with gel or liquid.

I have some MAC eye shadows that I refuse to de-pot (due to them breaking easily). I've been searching for ways to travel light and not carry so many cases or makeup bags so, I decided to buy a little pencil box from Micheals, some velcro stick on tabs and put all of my eye shadow pots in one compact area. The box was $3 and the velcro stickys were $.99 a pack. Heres how it turned out>>

I stuck the soft end on the inside of the box in straight lines. I cut the pointy sides in half so that they could stick on half of the underside on the shadow pots.

Then.......I also bought these little clip boxes from Target for $1.99 to hold more product.

I did my little review on Revlon Color Stay foundation and loved it but it made me itch. Remember?
Well.........I loved the freakin' stuff SO much that I decided to try it again with hopes that I didn't get itchy and......I didn't! YAY!!!! *claps* I wore the stuff for a little over 23 hours this 4th of July weekend (don't EVER do that). I went motorcycle riding, took a few naps, was too lazy to wash my face in the shower for our night out etc.... I got a lil oily after about 20 hours. But, just a lil. Heres my "after 20 hours" photo>

This stuff is the BOMB!! Now that i'm not a itchy little monster anymore when I wear it, this will now be my foundation of choice. MAC Studio Fix Fluid is being shelved! :}

Now go get yourself some!! BTW, I wear Caramel 400!

I went to the IMATS show a couple of weeks ago and came across a makeup sanitizing product titled Beauty So Clean. It claims to kill bacteria in 10 seconds.

They have sanitizing wipes for lipsticks, glosses, etc. & sanitizing spray for eye shadows, pressed powders, etc.

They also have brush cleaner but as most of you know, I believe Cinema Secrets has the BEST brush cleaner hands down!!!

I really like the Beauty So Clean product. Its a bit expensive but money should be no object when it comes to your health or the health of your clients.
I'm a germaphobe when it comes to my makeup anyway. I NEVER use the gloss or lip sticks straight from the tubes. That's just gross!

I went by Walgreens and picked up some products that needed to be refilled and a few things I had never used.

I came across a Nail Art Pen by Sally Hansen ($7.99). I've heard mention of it but didn't really pay it any attention. They had black, red, green, & navy blue at the store. I got the black one.
I like it so far! Check out my toes!

The polish is some $.99 NYC polish I picked up. I like it. Its cool I guess.

I also saw these eye shadows by Milani ($3.99)
I didn't see that many colors to choose from so I got Java Bean and Iced Blue. They're good for the price they were. You definitely need an eye shadow base for them though. I'll have photos using these soon.

My "Rasta" Look

I was inspired by a green, yellow, red Rasta/Jamaican hat I saw. Hope you all like the look!!
As some of you may know, I have NOT been able to EVER put strip lashes on myself but I can pop on some individuals in 2.2 sec......so.....this was the first time I've ever been "kinda" successful at putting strips on , so be nice!! Please!

Zebra Inspired Lips

I bought a tube of lipstick from MAC and it came in this cool zebra box.
It totally inspired me. I want to do it on my eyes when I have a little more free time but I got a chance to throw it on my lips. Here is what I did>>

First, I moisturized

Then I applied a white cream base by MAC called Luna.

Then I set it with powder. I used NYX White Frost eye shadow.

Then I added the zebra print with MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack and these were the results>>>>

A Night with the Kids

I had a night with the bay bays. I decided to entertain them by impressing them with my horrible drawing skills!
I put a lady bug on their left eyes. They were acting a little to "bay bay" to get the other one done! LOL Heres how it turned out>>>>>

Late Night b4 and after

So...I was up, couldn't sleep, bored as heck! There's my b4!

First I applied Merle Normans Automatic Shadow Base. Be sure to spread your base evenly so that your eyeshadow doesn't look blotchy. Let the base dry.

I then applied MAC Trax and MAC Naked Lunch as a highlight. (Right under my brow)
Afterward I applied MAC Satellite Dreams on my lid and little above my crease.

I then applied MAC Fig.1 to the lid but not entirely covering Satellite Dreams.

I applied MAC Graphology to the outer corner and
cleaned up the fallen eyeshadow and base with a baby wipe and filled
in my brow with MAC Handwritten.

Then, I added a little MAC Carbon to the outer corner and lightly blended.

I applied more of all the shadows, blended it in, cleaned up more fallen shadow and applied MAC NC45 concealer and blended.

I applied Mary Kay Bronze #500 foundation. Added MAC Electra to the inner eye, Satellite Dreams and Fig.1 under bottom lashes. I then applied MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in dark, MAC Refined Deeper Bronze below my cheek bones, and MAC Plum Foolery & MAC Desert Rose blush to my cheek bones.>>

Next, I lined my eyes with MAC Fluidline Blacktrack & MAC Sunsational lipstick. I apologize for being too lazy to put on lashes! :} Or even mascara for that matter!!

Then.......I used MAC Currant lip liner, NYX French Kiss

in the center of my lips, & Palladio Facet on the rest. This is how it all turned out>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Concealers

Concealers come in different textures and forms. It's important to match the correct textures with the different problem areas.
For example, to conceal blemishes , you should use concealers that are much drier in texture and for under eye circles you would use a concealer that's more on the creamy side.

There are pencil concealers which are usually a little dry and covers tiny imperfections and blemishes well. For blemishes and the like, u may want to stick with drier concealers. It helps adhere concealer to the skin/blemish and stay put.

Tube concealers have a creamer texture that is light and great for mature skin.

Wand concealers are very light in texture. You may apply and blend without adding foundations because it can be blended right into the skin. It also works for quick touch ups.

Stick concealers gives full coverage. It has a thick and creamy consistency and can hide the most prominent blemishes. Be sure to blend well when using creamy concealers so it doesn't crease or emphasize fine lines.

Pot concealers are also thick and creamy but contain more moisturizing agents. It gives the best coverage out of all the concealers. These can also be bought in oil- free formulas.

This is the part of the under eye area where the concealer should be applied

and when u blend it, it should look like this>>>

You may want to buy a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation.
Apply the concealer and blend. When applying the foundation, be sure to stipple the foundation over the area you concealed so that you don't rub the concealer off.

More Foundations

Foundations come in a variety of shades, textures, and consistencies. There are liquids, creams, powders, etc. Finding the correct shade is very important. When you go to department stores such as Nordstroms, free standing makeup stores like MAC, or know of any consultants that work for brands like Mary Kay, you have a better chance getting the color match you desire.
Here are some swear by and some I'd rather not buy again.

Mary Kay Medium Coverage $14.oo (liquid)
Great! Great! Great! Especially for women of color. It tends to match the best, its smooth, it doesn't look cakey. Good stuff I swear by!

The Mary Kay Cream to Powder (not pictured) is also great if you're into cream to powder foundations.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid $26.00 (liquid)
Love it ! I use this foundation the most.
I honestly don't know why but I have more shades of this than I do any other foundation. :} I guess it's the easiest to grab when I'm working. Anyway, the point is, it's good stuff!

MAC Studio Fix $26.00 (powder)
I can surely live without it. It leaves you pasty looking. I don't' know, I just don't like it much. It may work for you though. Stop by MAC try it on and see how you like it.

MAC Studio Stick $29.00 (cream)
I have a lot of these shades also. It has great coverage.
If you have oily skin, make sure you set it very well so you don't have to worry about so many touch ups. I've used it for TV and it did a so so job under the lighting. Its wonderful for photo shoots though. This product is better used for normal and dry skin types. As oily as I am, I really like it!

MAC Studio Tech $29.00 (cream)
Ummmm...I like it. It's just that it makes me super oily and shiny looking after about 30 minutes. I have to blot WAY to much. Totally annoying! BUT....I still wear it and I still like it. I've been trying to figure out ways for it not to do that. I wore it the other day and set it with MAC Select Sheer Loose powder and walked around Target for about 2 hours and it stayed. So, I'm gonna try it once more to see if I'm on the right track or just totally sleep deprived. I'll let you know! Would I ever buy it for myself again?? Uhhh...probably not!

MAC has come out with a Studio Sculpt foundation that I MUST try. I'm hearing great things about it. I'll also be trying most of the department store brands and giving my feed back. I'll be sure to let you know how those work out.

**Side Line: Ladies keep in mind that when you apply foundation and take close up photos with your digital cameras, it may seem as if the foundation it too light. The light from the flash (being so close to your face) bounces off the foundation lightening it. So, as long as you can see that the color matches or blends well with the naked eye or in natural lighting, don't worry.
If that bothers you, just take the photo a little further away from the face or turn off the flash.

Primers & Bases

I happen to be extremely oily and I'm always in search of things to put on b4 applying makeup to keep my oils from sneaking through. Primers or oil controls lotions are typically used to make foundation go on more smoothly, fill in lines and/or wrinkles and act as a oil blocking agent.
Here are the products I have tried:

Dr. Feel Good by Benefit Cosmetics $28.00
Its OK! You're supposed to put it over your foundation. It didn't really work out for me. Its not that bad if u use it without makeup though. It smells like menthol :} It was kind of a waste of money but I heard so many good things about it, I had to try it for myself. I wasn't impressed!!

MAC Oil Control Lotion $29.50
It did the job, but not for long. If you are semi oily or you just have t-zone issues or certain oily areas, this may be the product for you. It makes the skin feel velvety. I'm sure you'll like it! I do, just not under makeup.

MAC Prep+ Prime Skin $23.00
I love love love this product! You just need one pump!
It'll last you 4-EVER. You put it on before you apply your foundation. It's great, I rarely have to re powder. Its makes your makeup last all day or night. Some hate it, some love it, but it surely keeps me from shining like newly waxed hardwood floors!! Great Buy!

Sweat Stop $40.00
No joke!! It truly doesn't allow u to break a sweat. It's not really a primer, but it is used as one for tv, shoots, movies, fx, etc. It's actually an antiperspirant. (yes, the same ingredient added to deodorant) I use it when I'm on set for extremely sweaty or oily people or when I know for sure I'll be out for more than 18hrs+ and I need to keep it together. I also occasionally use it on my lids as a shadow base. I love it.

MAC Prep+ Prime Eye $16.00
Used on eye lids before applying shadow. It allows the shadow to be vibrant and true to color. It also prevents creasing and lid oiliness.
I don't have any issues with this. I use it on everyone! I adore it. Get you some!

MAC Cream Colour Base $16.50
Someone please tell me what else this product is supposed to do because
I hate. It creases. It sucks. The end!

Merle Norman Automatic Shadow base $14.00
This stuff makes shadow look great but you'll crease 5 minutes after you start feeling that Diva come to life. I have yet to find someone it doesn't crease on. It sits in my kit sad and lonely. Waste of my money honey!

Cellophanes & Semi/ Demi- Permanents

Cellophane/Semi-Permanents are quite important when it comes to the health of your hair. It coats the hair shaft protecting it from the elements. There are number of semi- permanents/cellophane colors on the market. Some are better than others.

Adore ($3.99-$4.99) comes in an array of colors.
The product is decent overall. It should not be called a semi-permanent though. Expect the color to fade
after 2 shampoos or so. I like mixing Adore with different color lines when I'm looking for more vibrancy. If you're in search for a quick weekend color fix, Adore maybe what you need!

Jazzing ($3.99-$4.99) is one of the originals! It has very good staining power and luminosity. Great for lift & deposit coloring, covering gray (that isn't very stubborn), or your natural hair to give it a hint of color. It'll last about 4-6 shampoos before you'll need a re-do. I believe its a great affordable product to use.

Kiss Express ( $3.99-$4.99) is at the bottom of my list. I only buy it when I'm desperate and don't have access to anything else. The staining power is good BUT, Beware because whatever it touches, it stains. Its so hard to remove it from the scalp and skin. It doesn't cover gray as good as I would like either!

Clairol Beautiful Browns ($4.99) is wonderful, especially on relaxed hair.
It covers gray beautifully. They have beautiful warm/natural colors and it doesn't stain the skin. It also has wonderful luminosity and it leaves the hair feeling moisturized.

Wella Color Charm Demi ($4.99-$5.99) is near the top of my list.
You have to buy the solution to mix with it ( $2.99). It covers even the most stubborn gray well. I like it a lot but there is another line that Wella has that I adore even more called Wella Color Touch. (Not sold in beauty supplies) Its almost the same as
Color Charm but its more on a professional level. It has more color choices and much more vibrancy. It covers gray exceptionally well and is wonderful when just depositing color. I have yet to go wrong with this one! I use it A LOT!

Sebastian Colorshines (20.99-26.99) is probably the best cellophane on the market. It surely shines and it deposits color very well also. It leaves you hair feeling wonderful!!!!This is another product you can't go wrong with. Its very hard to find in beauty supplies now, but if you happen to come across a color you like, I suggest you gone on and make that investment!

Lastly, this product is #1 on my list. There are no products (that I know of) that has ANYTHING on this.........(drum roll please...) Introducing, a product that isn't old, but not new!
One that has to be purchased by a certified stylist, one that will literally make your hair grow (it has been proven), leave it soft, manageable, and exceptionally shiny!!
GOLDWELL ELUMEN! It has a great color selections that are true to color! You will Never go wrong with this one. The Bomb!!!

I've found some great affordable lip gloss called Palladio. It is just as good as MAC ladies and I'm hooked!! The only down fall is the in store color selections. The web site www.palladiobeauty.com has a larger selection of colors. I found this product at Sallys Beauty Supply for $5.49 but with a Sallys card you pay $3.99. They're cheaper for non-MUA if you purchase them on line at $4.50. Who can beat that??!!

I also bought a NYX lip gloss for $2.00 just to try it and I'm hooked on that on too and in search for more. It even has a great fruity smell!

Affordable Foundations & the 411 on Cleaning Your Brushes

As most of you know, I'm a MAC girl. I've been trying new lines that are more affordable for those of you who don't want to spend 60 million at the MAC store.
So...I sashay down to Target, browsed the cosmetic isles in search of these "fabulous" foundations advertised on television. Boy wasn't I disappointed!! They have Halle, Rhianna, & Beyonce advertising this makeup and they don't even carry darker shades in store. You have to go online to get them. They had a few urban colors in store but not dark enough for me. There were a few specific brands that I was able to try though.

True Match by Loreal ( $10.95)
Good, but not great! It made my face itch a little. It had decent coverage. If it had not been for the itching, I would have probably worn it again.

Revlon Color Stay ($12.99) works! It stayed all day. It also has great coverage. Just be sure to get your exact color. Purchase from a store with a makeup return policy such as CVS or Walmart just in case you pick up the wrong shade. It also made me a little itchy.

Cover Girl Queen Collection ($7.99) was a total disappointment.

The colors were a bit weird to me. Some of them had a lot of orange, too much green, not enough yellow, etc... It was pretty hard (to me) to find a good shade. They were either way to light with a lot of green or to dark with a whole lot of orange.

It didn't have enough coverage for my liking. Holding the container up to your face won't work either! Thumbs down :(

Maybelline NY Dream Matte Mousse ($8.49) & Dream Liquid Mousse (7.79)

Both are great buys!! The Matte Mousse is very soft and easy to apply. The liquid has buildable coverage and works pretty well! I would totally wear these again! Good release Maybelline:)

There were a few brand names at Target that I wasn't very familiar with but they were more expensive than MAC such as: NP Set, JK Jemma Kidd, and Pixi. I wasn't very impressed with what I saw either! Whomp! Whomp!

The cleanliness of your brushes are very important! I personally recommend that you clean them after each use. Keeping your brushes clean prevents dirt, germs, and bacteria from settling into your brushes and makeup.

There are a number of brush cleaners available for purchase at Target($4), Sallys($4.99), MAC($11), Cinema Secrets ($13-$34.99). Although I feel that Cinema Secrets has the best brush cleaner (hands down), nothing can beat some good 'ol soap and water.
Rinse the brush well, put a few drops of soap in the palm of your hand, rub it about thoroughly, rinse, repeat. Rinse & or wash brush until in rinses clear. Shape brush. Place brush on counter with the bristles hanging off for proper drying. Treat your brushes well. Especially if you spent a pretty penny on them. If you're good to them, they will be good to you!!

For basic makeup application, there are some essential items needed to pull it off.
The first thing you'll need is confidence. You must tap into your inner "diva" (give her a name) and rate yourself a 10 out of 10! My #1 is something money can't buy.

Now, a couple of dollars can buy you some sponge wedges. I use the latex free sponges by Studio Tools ($2.50) from Target. They come in a pack of 32. They are great! MAC and a number of other lines have pretty decent wedge sponges, but why spend $6 for a pack of 6 when a cheaper brand works just as great and you get more!! Expensive higher quality sponges can be washed and reused a few times but who has time for that??!
For you divas that gave me the side eye when I said sponge, can use a foundation brush. I have a pretty good one from MAC but it takes entirely too long to wash and dry.

Next you'll need a powder brush or powder puff. The puff presses the power into the skin to set foundation. The brush will do the same if done correctly. Velour powder puffs are good. They range in price depending on the brand
name but they all work the same. ($3-$20)

For the eyes you'll need a few brushes. Eye shadow brushes are important for proper application and blending. I've tried many but few have succeeded. I'll go over the brushes in the order they're pictured. The eye shadow brush is used for sweeping color over the entire lid or highlighting the brow bone. My favorite is the MAC 252 (29.00) its the bomb. Target has a Sonia Kashuk shadow brush for $10. It works well but it sheds and gets a little flimsy after u wash it few times.
The white haired brush is the MAC 217 blending brush ($22.50). I use it to apply and blend shadow for the crease. I also use the crease brush by Mirabella. ( 3rd brush pictured) I found it for $7. I love it to apply shadow but not to blend.
Mirabella has pretty good brushes for a reasonable price.
My all time favorite brush is the MAC 224 blending brush(28.00). I have yet to find one that compares.

Michael's Crafts Store also has wonderful brushes. I have a few their angle brushes. The MAC 266 ($19.50) is good but I hardly use it.

I like like the ones I have from Michael's and Target much better. I use the angle brush to fill in eyebrows & line the eyes. I bought them for $4 a piece.

Last but not least, you need tweezers or an eyebrow razor. Eyebrow shaping and maintenance are extremely important. It gives you an instant face lift!! I really don't recommend waxing because it removes a layer of skin, but if that's your preference, work it out Diva!!
